Mozzarella sticks are easy and tasty snack to indulge kids. So, I had this fresh mozzarella sitting in my refrigerator which I had bought from Costco Wholesale and wanted to finish it before it expires. Found this recipe on food network and adapted it as per things available to me. They came out great my kid enjoyed eating them as an evening snack.
Serves: 2
Preparation time: 20 mins. + 40 mins. To freeze
Cooking time: 10 mins.
Ingredients:
1 - 16 ounce fresh mozzarella log
1 cup breadcrumbs
2 large eggs
Salt to taste
1 tsp Italian seasoning
Oil to deep fry
Directions:
- Cut the cheese into ½ inch wide sticks. (I halved the already sliced mozzarella log)
- Combine the breadcrumbs, italian seasoning and salt in a medium bowl and mix.
- Beat the eggs in a separate bowl.
- Now, dip the cheese in the eggs to coat completely.
- Coat the cheese in the breadcrumb mixture and flip to coat evenly till the cheese sticks are covered completely.
- Place the cheese sticks on a plate and repeat second time so that more crumbs adhere to the sticks.
- Transfer to plate and cover to freeze for about 40 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan / kadai and when medium hot, fry the cheese sticks until they turn golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper.
- Serve immediately with tomato ketchup or marinara sauce.
Tips:
- You can keep the frozen sticks for 2 days in freezer and then fry when you want to serve.
- Do not deep fry the sticks for long, as they only need to be golden brown and crisp from outside and no cooking of cheese is required.
