Aloo Jeera | Jeera Aloo | Cumin Potato Stir Fry (with step by step pictures)

“Aloo Jeera” or “Cumin Potato Stir Fry” for me is a recipe which is so easy and quick to make that I end up packing in my little one’s lunch box at least once a week. This recipe is straight from my mom’s kitchen and like to keep it simple as is.

Jeera aloo are quite famous in north india as the they are easy to make and very popular lunch box recipe that people carry while travelling on long journeys. Aloo poori is famous combination which is a comfort food for many in India. Sharing this easy recipe which many of you might be making in your kitchens on a regular basis.



Serves: 2-3
Preparation time: 10 mins.
Cooking time: 5-8 mins.

Ingredients:

4 medium sized potatoes (boiled and cubed)
1 teaspoon cumin seeds /Jeera
½ teaspoon red chilli powder
½ teaspoon coriander powder
¼ teaspoon garam masala powder
½ teaspoon Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
3 Green chillies (finely chopped)
2 tablespoon oil
2 tablespoons fresh coriander leaves


Directions:
  1. Wash and boil the potatoes in pressure cooker for 3 whistles. Allow to release pressure naturally.
  2. Once cool, peel off the skin of potatoes and cut into cubes.
  3. Heat oil in a wok and add cumin seeds.
  4. Once they crackle, add in green chillies (I skipped this as made for my kids lunch box). Saute.
  5. Now,add in other dry spices.
  6. As you get aroma of the spices (about a minute), add in cubed potatoes. Stir to combine with spices. Cover and cook for 2 minutes on low flame.
  7. Switch off the flame and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti/parathas/pooris.

Tips:
  • You can add more stuff like onions, dry red chillies and asafoetida to these for variations. I like it to be simple, as it tastes best for me.

Step By Step :

Switch off the flame and add in lemon juice.
